USAF EC-121

The twenty-two USAF EC-121T's were redesignations of fifteen EC121Ds and seven EC121Hs.
This one, 53-548, has overall glossy light gray finish and the dorsal radome removed. Photographed at McClellan AFB, Sacramento, California in March 1973.
In September 1962, the aircraft designating systems of the USAF and Navy were combined.
This had relatively little effect on existing USAF designations but caused abandonment of many long-standing Navy designations. After the change, the special purpose was identified by a prefix, with the WV-2Q becoming
the EC-121N.
US Air Force EC-121Rs were former Navy WV-2/EC-121Ks stripped of their radomes, camouflaged, and used for special electronic missions in Vietnam.
